Our Musical Director Amanda Crawley, born and educated in London, is an experienced vocal tutor and choir director. As well as directing Jubilate, she currently conducts the Fairfax House Singers (York), Euphonics (Haxby), SoundsFun (York) and a String Ensemble (Harrogate Music Centre). She has run two community choir projects with York Theatre Royal and Harrogate Theatre, in each case resulting in choirs being formed.
Amanda has taught singing for many years, both privately and in colleges and universities, including York University. She currently teaches at Leeds University and York College, where she is a voice tutor for the Music Theatre courses. She also runs regular singing days and workshops.
She has also devised and led workshops for companies wishing to improve management presentation and voice skills – such companies include VISA International, Yorkshire Water, BMW and Nissan.
As a recitalist, Amanda has sung music from across the centuries from plainsong to contemporary music and theatre music by Cole Porter, Gershwin and Flanders & Swann, and sung in many languages, even Japanese and Norwegian! She continues to give concerts and recitals, and regularly works with the Fairfax Ensemble with whom she recorded a CD of Mozart and others using an 1828 Haxby square piano.
